Nia Technique:  The LOVE YOUR BODY Workout

Nia is an amazing and fun workout and an expressive movement practice that uses the body's most comfortable and pleasurable way to achieve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual fitness and well-being. Creatively combining centuries old healing practices with powerful martial arts moves in an energizing dance format, Nia is an all over workout - inside and out! 
 
The movement forms that inspire Nia are:

  • Three Dance Arts: Duncan Dance, Jazz, and Modern, which give the body, mind, emotions, and spirit an avenue of expression.
  • Three Martial Arts: T'ai Chi, Aikido, and Tae Kwon Do, which promote strength, confidence, and empowerment; and
  • Three Healing Arts: Yoga, Alexander Technique, and the work of Moshe Feldenkrais, which promote personal and physical exploration, transformation, and healing.

Nia is a transformational experience which guides you to move your body the way it was intended to move. We call this The Body's Way™. It's an amazing way to get fit since there is no aim for pain.  Nia is based on the Pleasure Principle: If it feels good, keep doing it; if it hurts, stop. Nia can be a challenging workout as well as a soothing practice for your body's condition. Best of all, Nia is fun. In case you need reassurance, your time in class will make you sweat; Nia is a safe, effective, cardiovascular workout.

Everyone is welcome (and encouraged) to take any Nia class. All ages, body types, and fitness levels can participate together in the same class. No prior training is necessary. In Nia, you will discover your athleticism, your inner vixen, creative expression through movement, your body's cranky and strong places, and a sense of exhilaration within stillness.  Everyone's Nia experience will be different on any given day, but some things will be universal; you'll love the time spent on yourself, you'll love your body's response to the practice, and you'll be so happy to meet and join the other dancers.  This is exercise like you've never known it.  It feels good AND it's good for you.

Lifestyle Coaching and Consulting
Many people ask me what lifestyle coaching is. Making lifestyle changes such as losing weight, increasing fitness, reducing stress, changing your diet, simplifying your life or changing careers can be difficult to do alone.  Sometimes a partner can help you reach clarity on what you want to do, or how to best go about it.  A coaching relationship can last a few months, or longer depending on what you want to accomplish. I offer the following coaching packages:

  • 1 one-hour session per month - $75
  • 2 one-hour sessions per month - $125
  • 3 one-hour sessions per month - $180

Some people are interested in having someone to bounce ideas off occasionally, or get them off on the right foot.  They want some consulting, but not a long-term coaching relationship. If that describes you, then you are in luck, because I have a way you can tap into my expertise!  In just an hour, you can

  • take a wellness assessment and determine where to start your path to healing and wellness
  • design a wellness plan that is customized to your lifestyle
  • have your resume professionally reviewed and get suggestions to make it more compelling
  • learn the best meditation style for you
  • learn powerful relaxation techniques that you can take home with you
  • find some peace in any stressful situation in your life by uncovering and questioning your stressful beliefs
  • practice interviewing for an important job
  • have a private Nia lesson customized for your needs in a supportive environment for yourself or your group (think birthday, book club, or shower!)
  • experience deep relaxation through a guided meditation or visualization for yourself or your group

The flat rate for consultiing services is $75 per hour, which includes customization for your needs, preparation, and follow up.
